While traditionally associated with safety and stopping power, modern braking systems, particularly those integrated with advanced technologies like regenerative braking, can significantly impact how efficiently a vehicle uses fuel. Understanding this role can help drivers make smarter choices on the road and maintain their vehicles more effectively.

The most direct way brakes affect fuel consumption is through the concept of energy conservation. Traditional braking systems work by converting the kinetic energy of a moving vehicle into heat through friction, which is then lost to the environment.
