Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson steps down

Lucid Motors announced this week that CEO Peter Rawlinson is stepping down from his position and will transition to the role of Strategic Technical Advisor to the Chairman of the Board. Mark Winterhoff, the Chief Operating Officer, has been appointed as the interim CEO, while the board of directors has begun the search for a permanent successor to Rawlinson.

The announcement was made in a press release issued on Tuesday, in which Rawlinson confirmed that his decision to step down followed the successful launch of the Lucid Gravity. He expressed pride in the achievements the company"s team has made over the past 12 years, stating, "We have transformed from a small company with big ambitions into a globally recognized leader in sustainable mobility technology."

It is worth noting that Rawlinson, who previously served as Vice President at Tesla and led the engineering team for the Model S, was one of the key founders of Lucid and launched the company in 2016. As for Winterhoff, he joined the company in December 2023 as Chief Operating Officer.

This executive change comes in the wake of Lucid"s launch of the Gravity SUV, its second electric vehicle following the Air sedan in 2021. Additionally, the Gravity SUV recently gained access to the Tesla Supercharger network, and the Air is expected to gain the same access in the second quarter of this year.
